How much yarn do I need for a blanket/afghan?

Answer: I usually use about 80 ounces for a large afghan. Years ago if you didn't buy all the yarn at once it was nearly impossible to match exactly because each die lot would be a little bit different. Now days the same color is always the same. That means you don't have to buy it all now. Buy enough to get a good start and buy more later if you need it.
